SPOILER WARNING: Up front, I’m going to say that I typically write a spoiler-free review. However, there are a few things that may spoil some very minor moments. If you skip to the Video Quality section, you miss the “spoiler” that I’m talking about.
The Four Horsemen (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher) are back — to unite with a new generation of illusionists (Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt) for their most global, high-stakes magical adventure yet. Their mission: Expose the corruption of Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), a powerful diamond heiress with ties to arms dealers, traffickers, and warlords. Aided by the legendary Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman), the two generations of magicians must overcome their differences to try and defeat their cunning and dangerous adversary, in this magic-fueled heist filled with the franchise’s signature twists, turns, and thrilling reveals — along with some of the most thrilling illusions ever captured on film. – synopsis via Lionsgate Films
NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T is directed by Ruben Fleischer . His other projects include the ZOMBIELAND movies and several comic book properties, such as STUMPTOWN and VENOM. I’m actually surprised that he has only directed this entry, because his work conveys the same feeling as the previous two. Maybe it ‘s how comfortable the cast feels with eachother.
The returning cast of Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco all have a rapport that is natural and has built over the three films. Isla Fisher returns after not being available to be in the second movie. I do like that she uses her real life reasons of having a family for her character. Lizzie Caplan then took her spot in the second and has also returned for this entry. Speaking of, I am very impressed with the make-up effects that they did to make Caplan look like an old, drunk. I figured it was her but it was a still a cool surprise.
As for The New Horsemen, they are a good group and complement the originals as much as they do with the old group. Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt are good choices because of their chemistry as friends. They feel genuinely invested in each other’s well-being. Villain is the terrifying Rosamund Pike. She has that “calm but threatening” tone and personality, but there is one kink in the armor: her character’s South African accent. I hate to give her a hard time but it was slightly off.

VIDEO QUALITY 4.5
The video is a 2160 HEVC transfer with Dolby Vision. The first thing that I noticed is that the images are natural and subtly saturated. Unlike how the previous film went to Macau with bright neon, this time around only has a few shots with bold coloring. That being said, the transfer isn’t drab or lifeless but looks like a healthy, 4k image. Take the scene with the Formula1 vehicle. There are accents of color in the scene that are very nice. The details are sharp and in both close-ups and the wider shots. The Dolby Vision adds some dark blacks that contrast nicely. The lines are clean and the shadows blend. The skin tones are naturally warm.

AUDIO QUALITY 4
The audio is a Dolby Atmos mix that defaults to a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 mix depending on your setup. The on-stage introduction to The Horsemen utilize overhead channels. It adds a layer to the illusions and tricks that, in some cases, also adds a sweeping effect. The LFEs are clean and solid. There are no real issues that I could hear. The dialogue is clear and prioritized.

THE FINAL WORD 4
I enjoyed this movie. If you are into this series of movies, you will enjoy this one. As mentioned earlier, the new Horsemen are a good group and, combined with the OG Horsemen, make for some good jokes and eight individual personalities. The disc has an excellent video transfer and a great audio mix. There are also some nice bonus features included to learn more about the production. Overall, it is a solid movie, and I recommend checking it out if you are looking for an enjoyable popcorn flick.
