THE BEAST WITHIN is directed by Alexander J. Farrell. At its base, it is a werewolf movie with Kit Harrington’s character trying to keep his family away from his issues. This isn’t like A WEREWOLF IN LONDON or DOG SOLDIERS in the way of action but I will say some of the visual effects were pulled off well. Kit Harrington does an excellent job as a man tormented by being a monster.

VIDEO QUALITY 3.5/5
The video is a 1080p AVC presentation. The transfer is clean with some filming techniques that give the video an unreal look. Most images have a sharp image in the foreground and some macro images are highly detailed. The area where the family lives looks timeless with luscious greens and beige-colored clothing. It is a mostly the primaries that come though and they are not overly saturated. There is a warm hue on the film and it makes the skin tones come off as natural. The contrast creates sharp lines and dark blacks in the more well-lit scenes. However, the darker scenes tend to have more of a muddled image. In some of the scenes, the contrasting is practically non-existent.
AUDIO QUALITY 4/5
The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix. It is adequate in getting the job done with balanced speaker use. There are a few effects that have a clear sound. The score is also strong with nice LFEs and clean highs. The dialogue is clear and prioritized.

THE BEAST WITHIN is getting some mixed reviews and I think it’s because people were expecting something more horrific rather than this. This film is more of dramatic as a family is having problems keeping themselves together. The cast is good and the acting is believable. The audio and video are both great but I was hoping for some more in the way of extras. This is a production that I did want to know more about but maybe in the future. As I always say, check it out for yourself because this might be you.
