Celebrate the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love, peace, and unity. In this powerful and uplifting film, discover Bob Marley’s incredible story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music that changed the world. – via Paramount Pictures
BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. He is best known for KING RICHARD and WE OWN THIS CITY. He has a knack for entertaining biographies.
Kingsley Ben-Adir put in the time to transform himself into Bob Marley with his speech and mannerisms. He had the help of Bob’s children to work on getting it right. Honestly, he does a great job and he was a good casting choice.
I’m a fan of Lashana Lynch and I think she has a lot of talent. I don’t know much about Rita Marley but I will say that she shows how strong of a person she was. Without revealing parts of the movie, Lynch’s character went through a lot in this story.

VIDEO QUALITY 5/5
The video is a 2160p HEVC presentation with Dolby Vision or HDR depending on your setup. The crispness in the images is impressive with nothing being overlooked. There is a subtle grain in the video and it adds to the look of the period. Details are incredibly sharp the fabrics of clothing down to the rugs. The colorings have a brilliance that shows the beauty of the format and Jamaica. There is bold coloring in many of the clothing and some of the outside landscapes. Contrasting is excellent and the shadows are dark. With the abundance of smoke-filled rooms, there is no crushing that I could see.

AUDIO QUALITY 5/5
The audio is a Dolby Atmos or Dolby TrueHD 7.1 mix, depending on your setup. I can say that the release could be considered as reference. There is a wide sound field and power in each channel. The overhead channels make the concert scenes by creating the natural direction of sound. The studio recording and concert scenes demand object-based audio and this mix doesn’t disappoint. Let’s talk about the LFEs: they hit hard. The songs and score monopolize the bass along with some effects. The level of clarity in the dialogue and singing is perfect.

THE BOTTOM LINE 4/5
This movie is good in the way of storytelling and the look of the period feels right. I found myself paying more attention to the music instead of the man and I think that’s because the movie guides you in that way. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot that I didn’t know about him but the focus on the foundation of a few songs feels off.
The release itself is what other 4k releases should strive for. The video is superb with such a high level of detail. The Atmos mix brings this film to life. This is a must when a movie centers around music and large crowds. The extras are worth watching to learn about the production and the level of involvement from Marley’s children along with the crew. Overall, I did enjoy the film and I say to check it out for yourself.
